Celebrating & Supporting Small Business

Small businesses are the heart and soul of our community, and during Small Business Week, I had the pleasure of visiting some incredible local gems in Ward 7. These businesses not only contribute to our local economy but also bring unique offerings to our neighbourhood.

🥞 Crepepresso - an iconic crepe eatery that's been a favourite for so many. Their delicious crepes have delighted our taste buds for years!

🍣 Jo Sushi - a recent addition to Ward 7, this sushi spot has quickly become a go-to destination for those who crave fresh and flavourful Japanese and Asian cuisine.

💎 Dentistry @ Preserve - a trusted dental practice that provides essential services and maintains our community's oral health.

🍰 Wonder Cake - a top-rated handmade bakery that's renowned for creating scrumptious baked goods right in our neighbourhood.

💇 Strands Hair Salon - your neighbourhood hair stylist that has been serving the community for years.

🎨 Find me lettering - a creative studio bringing art to your business branding (findmelettering.com)

🏫 WMC Academy - having helped over 1000 students improve their academic performances, paving their way to gain admission to prestigious universities.

Small businesses like these play a vital role in our local economy, and it's my commitment to support and revitalize small businesses in Ward 7. Let's continue to cherish and back these wonderful establishments that make our community vibrant and unique.

Traffic Calming in School Zones ( Sixteen Mile Drive)

The town is initiating traffic calming initiatives in school zones on major collector and minor arterial roads. This project aims to enhance road safety in these areas. The town will introduce traffic calming measures in three school zones.

Ward 7 Pumpkin Giveaway

Despite the crisp weather, I was thrilled to see Ward 7 residents turning out in large numbers for the pumpkin giveaway and weekend gathering. This marked a special occasion as it was the first time we had three Ward 7 parks – Isaac Park, Fowley Park, and William Rose Park – filled with festive pumpkins simultaneously, providing an excellent opportunity for residents to connect and bond. I want to express my sincere appreciation to the Oakville Fire Department, North Oakville Ward 7 Residents Association (NOW7), Ron Chhinzer, Navjot Hothi, and the many dedicated volunteers who devoted their time and assistance. Special thanks to Khushwant Singh Bajwa for generously sponsoring a portion of today's event at Fowley Park.

Also delighted to have our MP Pam Damoff join us and engage with our residents. My colleague Councillor Nav Nanda and I are deeply grateful for the enthusiastic involvement of our dynamic community, which truly made this event a success.

Key Events

Culture Days Celebration

I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Yuan Yin Group and Hrcca Halton for their outstanding efforts in organizing a truly remarkable concert held at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, in celebration of Culture Days. The event was nothing short of extraordinary, with a packed house where the audience was treated to an exquisite fusion of traditional and contemporary music. The beautiful melodies and harmonious rhythms not only delighted the ears but also had a unifying effect, as they brought together people from various backgrounds and walks of life. This musical experience transcended boundaries, connecting individuals from diverse audience groups and creating a profound sense of unity and cultural appreciation. It's events like these that remind us of the power of the arts to bridge differences, foster understanding, and celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures within our community.

Halton Growing Together Conference

I had the privilege of attending the Halton Growing Together Conference, an event thoughtfully hosted by the dedicated Halton Police Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) team. This conference provided a platform for insightful discussions and an opportunity to gain valuable perspectives on promoting unity and inclusivity within our community. It was truly inspiring to witness individuals from diverse backgrounds coming together to share their experiences and ideas, all with the common goal of building a more inclusive and harmonious Halton. I'm grateful for the chance to learn from the wisdom and experiences shared at this event, which underscored the importance of embracing diversity and fostering a sense of togetherness as we continue to grow and evolve as a community.

Islamic Heritage Month Exhibition

We had an excellent time commemorating Islamic Heritage Month at Oakville Town Hall. The event featured numerous informative displays highlighting the diverse history, culture, and significant contributions of the Muslim community in Canada. It was heartwarming to witness the presence of many Oakville Ward 7 residents alongside community leaders and representatives from Halton and Peel, all coming together for this engaging and well-attended gathering. I would like to extend my gratitude to the event organizers for putting together such a fantastic program that celebrated our diverse communities and cultures in town.
